Club Beginnings

About us:

For over 18 years, the Delta Model Railway Club has brought the history and operation of BC railways to life. We are a thriving, member-funded non-profit society registered in the Province of British Columbia, dedicated to enthusiasts of all ages, from 14 to 90+. Over the past three years, we’ve experienced significant growth in membership and visitors. Since 2018, we have proudly served as a valued tenant and active community partner within the Tsawwassen Town Centre Mall (Century Group).

Our founding principle is simple: Open to All. We provide a safe, welcoming environment where modelers—from newcomers to experts, and residents of Delta, the lower mainland, and visitors abroad—can connect over a shared passion. We offer a supportive alternative for youth, especially those not interested in traditional sports or related activities. Through mentorship, our members share knowledge about the history and operation of railways in BC and Delta—combining valuable learning with serious fun.

Member activities include:

  • Running miniature trains
  • Model building
  • Historical and preservation learning
  • Hands-on Electronics: Learning wiring, soldering, and troubleshooting to bring model layouts and rolling stock to life.
  • Art and Scenery: Developing realistic backdrops through photography, painting, and weathering techniques.
  • Rail Operations: Participating in team-based sessions to experience real-world railway operating principles.
  • Community Building: Engaging in conversation and fostering teamwork in a phone-free environment.
  • Host to local and regional NMRA (National Model Railway Association) events.
  • Hosting community open houses one to two times per month, welcoming the public to see our work in action.
